I am currently in the process of writing a user friendly neurological book on the power of the mind and how it is affected by Neuroplasticity. This guide is an easy way to understand the power of your brain, your mind and the thoughts that drive your creativity, insight and intelligence. evolve and increase it’s capabilities. But what is Neuroplasticity? Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to change continuously throughout life. We can do this with cognitive training, medication, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), virtual reality simulators and surprisingly, Mindfulness meditation.
The brain can also heal from trauma as seen with the comparison of brain scans done on combat war veterans suffering from PTSD. Neuroscience is a remarkable wonder that we haven’t even truly begun to comprehend. For example activity that takes place in one area can be transferred to a different location, the proportion of grey matter can change, synapses may strengthen or weaken over time and neurotransmitters can change speed and course. These changes can dramatically alter your ability to decrease symptoms of psychological disorders, improve your cognitive abilities, boost creativity and maximize your work performance.
Neuroplasticity can be seen from both microscopic changes in individual neurons to large-scale changes such as cortical remapping in response to trauma. Behavior, environmental stimuli, thought and emotions may also cause Neuroplasticity through activity plasticity, which has significant implications for healthy development, learning, memory, and recovery from trauma, brain damage and PTSD.
I examine a couple of psychological disorders like PTSD, ADHD, anxiety and depression to determine what therapies maximize the capacity for Neuroplasticity. For example it has been proven through brain scans that trauma from PTSD in combat war veterans can be healed through CBT and mindfulness meditation by structurally changing or rewiring the neural pathways of the brain. This treatment can always be seen in healing anxiety and panic disorder.
See Also: Mindfulness.
My book is making progress and self publication is estimated for 2021, but I want to share some interesting pieces here to help anyone who could benefit from the knowledge now. I have included some general neuroscience information and case studies specifically targeting PTSD and ADHD minds.
If you have any questions or comments or would like to discuss neuroplasticity (especially if you have PTSD or ADHD ) please contact me!
